Our state has too many lawsuits.

The litigation environment in Louisiana is often perceived as unfair to both companies and individuals. This imposes real costs and hinders the economy. The statistics are not favorable. Louisiana’s auto insurance premiums consistently rank at or near the top in the nation. The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform now ranks Louisiana last in the nation for its legal climate. And in a recent survey of GNO, Inc. investors, the legal environment was cited as the second greatest weakness in the business climate.

In order to improve its legal climate, Louisiana needs to reduce frivolous lawsuits and better align its legal system with other states (e.g. highest jury threshold in the nation).
