Our universities need funding.

Louisiana has cut spending to higher education more than any other state since 2008 – nearly $5,000 per student*. Louisiana now has the lowest per-student funding of all 16 states tracked by the Southern Region Education Board. In fact, in 2017 Louisiana’s per student funding was 42% below the southern average.

We must grow state funding from 30% to a stable 50% (it was previously 70%), while giving universities control over tuition and curricula to best meet local needs. It is also essential to modify the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) to reward excellence while recognizing need.
